Hazendal Estate Pinotage 2025 is a refined, cool-climate expression of South Africa's signature grape, crafted by award-winning cellarmaster Kiara Scott Farmer as part of the estate's premium Estate Collection. Produced from a single 1.6-hectare vineyard in the Bottelary Hills, this Pinotage showcases elegance and precision, moving away from the bold, heavily extracted style traditionally associated with the variety.
The fruit was harvested in multiple passes according to ripeness and fermented using a combination of whole bunches, whole berries, and destemmed fruit with indigenous yeasts in open-top fermenters. Following fermentation, the wine matured for 11 months in a combination of 500-litre French oak barrels and concrete tanks, preserving purity of fruit while adding texture and complexity.
The result is a beautifully perfumed, medium-bodied Pinotage with vibrant red fruit, fine tannins, and exceptional freshness. Tasting Notes: Nose: Succulent wild berries, cranberry, damson plum, blueberry, violets, and delicate peppery spice. Palate: Bright red berries, black plum, mulberries, and subtle spice are framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant lemony acidity, creating a wine that is elegant, juicy, and beautifully balanced.
Finish: Crunchy, refreshing, and persistent with lingering red fruit, subtle spice, and a fine mineral edge.
